I have been asked this particular questions hundreds of times over the last couple of years. How did I get to owning my own children’s hat company? Is this what I would have said I was going to be doing if someone asked me in college…no. Did I have a strong desire to work in the children’s industry…no. Did I even think about going into fashion or business in college…no. However, I have always had a strong desire to run and start my own company. In middle school I sold bracelets that I made to friends, during high school I sold hair scrunchies to my friend (that probably dates me…), I even attempted to make my own childhood game and submit it to Milton Bradly (that was obviously unsuccessful). After I had children I still had that desire and I started to formulate my own business plan for a children art and music center. I went as far as meeting with our local business chamber office about business development. Somehow that still didn’t feel right though and I never went through with it. After my daughter was born I was so thrilled to start buying girl clothes and all the accessories that went with it. I placed an order online for some hair accessories and one of the items I purchased was back ordered. As a result, a nice lady contacted me one afternoon asking if I wanted her to ship the items that she did have in stock. At that moment, I trigger went off in the back of my mind…I knew she stayed at home and ran her own business. However, I knew there was a million bow and accessory companies out there and somehow I would have to compete. A couple months went by and I wanted a cute crochet hat for Marili (I think she was 3 months at the time). I couldn’t find what I was looking for at a department store or any nearby boutique…so I knew I had my business. How did I go from an idea to actual product….stay tuned! I plan to dedicate a good portion of my blog posts to business development and planning. My hope is to share with you how I started my business and mabye you too will become inspired to follow and develop your true talents and career goals…whatever that may be!

Marili Jean Made Hudson’s Fashion Pages – January 2011

We were excited to see ourselves in the January 2011 edition of Hudson. Previously only our barrettes were featured, which you could see if you looked REALLY closely! However, this month our Mini Diva Winter Hat was featured as well as our new headbands for little girls! Thank you to Hudson for supporting new and upcoming businesses!

Spring is in the Air…

Well not really, but it is here at Marili Jean Accessories. Our Spring Line is expected to arrive to our warehouse in the next week or so. We are really excited about this year’s Spring Line. New colors and styles are coming. We also have alot of visioin for our company in 2011. We hope to expand our trade show presence and thus increasing our boutique clients. We are also hoping to expand into a Kiosk….more on that as the details unfold.
